The Technical Process, Explained
Four things that define how a custom sock is engineered — from the knit structure to the final color.
1. Knitting
Socks are knitted, not woven — yarn is interlooped into stitches that stretch and conform to the foot. That loop structure gives socks the flexibility, smooth fit and shape recovery that woven fabric can't match. We knit on 200-, 168- and 144-needle circular machines, producing mesh, rib, terry cushion and jacquard structures.
2. Sock Anatomy
Every sock has five components: the welt, leg, heel, foot and toe. A well-fitting sock forms a "heel pocket" and a "toe pocket" that follow the foot's shape, with the toe seam placed on top of the toes for comfort. We reinforce high-wear zones (high heel and double sole) and add terry cushioning for impact absorption and moisture wicking.
3. Dyeing
We dye with fiber-reactive dyes for strong wash fastness, and direct, vat or sulfur dyes where the shade requires. Our rotary-drum dye machines use low water, energy and chemical levels with automated control, and tumble dryers relax the socks for very low shrinkage.
4. Printing & Patterning
Yarn choice affects printed color — luster, twist and hairiness change brightness and colorfastness. We offer sublimation printing for full-color, photo-real designs; embroidery for raised logos; and jacquard patterning knitted directly into the fabric for crisp, durable multi-color designs.
